Montacute HouseFrom the National Trust website

‘Clustered near to each other in the mellow south Somerset countryside can be found the wonderfully oak panelled manor house of Barrington Court; Elizabethan Montacute House, surrounded by terraced formal gardens; delightful Tintinhull Garden with its secluded lawns, pools and colourful borders; the medieval Treasurer’s House and the Great Hall of Stoke-sub-Hamdon Priory. Close by you can also visit the intimate medieval manor house of Lytes Cary and the Priest’s House, a medieval hall-house.’

Birdwatching

RSPB Reserve Swell Woods and Meadow is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) near the Village of Fivehead. This woodland complex is situated on a ridge of land overlooking West Sedgemoor.

The Great Crane Project is helping to re-establish cranes in wetlands throughout the UK, and we are lucky enough to have a small colony nearby. Visit website

Starling murmurations occur between Autumn and February across the Somerset Levels. The best places to view them
are Westhay Moor, Ham Wall RSPB Reserve or Shapwick Heath.
